    About ICAMMDA

    International Centre for Applied Mathematical Modelling and Data Analytics (ICAMMDA), Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria is a member of the West Africa Mathematical Modelling Capacity Development (WAMCAD) which is an Anglophone – Francophone – Lusophone partnership comprising several International Research Institution: University of Thies, Senegal; University of Conakry, Guinea; Bandim Health Project, Guinea Bissau; University of Ghana and International Centre for Applied Mathematical Modelling and Data Analytics, Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria.

    With funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, our objective is to enhance technical capacity development in malaria and NTD modelling through a multi-track training program targeting multiple career stages from students to faculty as well as malaria control practitioners. On our team are highly motivated individuals who want to develop statistical and mathematical modelling skills for malaria and NTDs modelling research. We are exploring the fascinating potential of Mathematical Modelling to support National Malaria Control Programmes (NMCPs). ICAMMDA is a centre comprising of great people with strong quantitative skills and an interest in global health. Our PhD scholars are working on the development, refinement, and application of sophisticated infectious disease models for epidemiological research and intervention-campaign planning.

    The malaria modelling team at ICAMMDA analyze field trials, and routine health system data; configure, calibrate, and apply malaria/NTDs transmission models; we design and build new models to answer questions aimed at improving the understanding of disease dynamics, informing effective public health campaigns, and guiding rational development of new public-health interventions. Our team collaborates with northern partners: Northwestern University, Malaria Consortium USA, SWISS TPH, Oxford University, Global Malaria Programme at the World Health Organization, PATH. Also, we partner with academics, NGOs, and local partners including National Malaria Control Programs (NMCP), Nigeria, and Malaria Consortium Abuja, Nigeria. As part of the WAMCAD, we work with other leaders in malaria modelling to advise the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP), Abuja, Nigeria on global eradication strategy.

    In ICAMMDA, our long-term goal is to train a critical mass of modelling scientists who are

    1. i) Retained within the West African Region (particularly in Nigeria)
    2. ii) Training the next generation of Modellers;

    iii) Working closely with local National Malaria Elimination Programs

    1. iv) Competitive in obtaining grants from international funding agencies
    2. v) Closely networked with each other across West Africa and with international partners

    We also give room to Visiting Scholars (Masters and PhD Scholars) by engaging them and allowing them to present their thesis.

    Director ICAMMDA

    Associate Professor E.A. Bakare serves as the esteemed Founder and Director of the International Centre for Applied Mathematical Modelling and Data Analytics (ICAMMDA). With a distinguished career as a seasoned scholar, Assoc. Professor Bakare leads a dedicated team at ICAMMDA. His unwavering commitment to excellence and a fervent desire to nurture and empower emerging talents in the field of mathematical modeling across diverse disciplines underscore his mission to combat neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) and infectious diseases while advancing the betterment of human lives.

    ICAMMDA Structure

    International Centre for Applied Mathematical Modelling and Data Analytics (ICAMMDA) is situated within the ICT Centre, Oye-Campus. It comprises two major sections: a scientific computing and simulation laboratory, and a section of offices. The computing and simulation lab contains state of the art equipment suitable for hosting seminars on various scientific endeavors; workshops and trainings on modelling, data analytics and computational skills; and other weekly activities of the Centre. The office section is a well-equipped facility with uninterrupted power supply and internet connection aiding research activities of the Centre. This section contains four offices namely: Director’s office, Administrative office, Masters and Ph.D. office, and Postdoctoral Scientists’ office.
